"The ingenuity of the method absolutely requires that GRATZ’ original equipment be used. From experience, it is the only equipment capable of allowing us to truly revel in the experience of original Pilates, not only from an aesthetic point of view but also because of its ability to recreate the ambience and atmosphere of Joe’s studio. It is the only equipment equal to the task of guiding the work in all its essence and completeness as established in the original method. "
Pilates, for me is THE SCIENCE OF THE BODY AND THE ART OF MOVEMENT.
Every training session involves a physical and mental challenge that serves to achieve a higher quality of well-being and the equilibrium of body, mind and spirit. What I personally love about Classical Pilates is its ability to discover perfection in the harmony of every body while at the same time not losing sight of its uniqueness. As a teacher, my daily challenge is to recognize and acknowledge the ‘intuitions’ that I derive from watching a body in motion so as to pinpoint exactly what each individual needs. Jay Grimes, my mentor, taught me how to guide the body towards the discovery of the correct movement which gives rise to the exercise. As I say to my clients to Know the exercise does not necessarily mean knowing how to work.
Following an extended period of instruction and intensive personal training at Romana’s Pilates, with Jay Grimes and with the best Classical Pilates teachers, Nicoletta Ciardo opened her Pilatesbeperfect studio in 2011, with the aim of sharing her experience with others and imparting the Joe Pilates’ method exactly as he conceived it.
The studio is situated in a residential area in Rome surrounded by trees and fields, a stone’s throw from the Vatican. It is a bright and airy open space where fluidity accomplished through training flows uninterrupted, aided by superior equipment produced by Gratz. Linearity and simplicity leave ample leeway to focus on form and on the body, the studio’s true protagonist. In short, an ideal location to recharge one’s batteries.
Nicoletta Ciardo graduated from Italy’s College of Physical Education (ISEF) majoring in Kinesiology in addition to being an athlete, swimmer and gym instructor. She fell in love with Pilates in London in 2000 and studied with Jay Grimes, one of Joe Pilates’ closest collaborators at the Vintage Pilates studio in Los Angeles receiving her diploma from ‘THE WORK’. From him she inherited a passion for the traditional method, for the integrity and completeness of its exercises and for teaching and as a result, she became a second-generation teacher trainer. Certified in Power Pilates and Romana’s Pilates, she further enriched her experience, training with the cream of Classical Pilates teachers including Dorothee Vandewalle, MeJo Wiggin, Peter Fiasca, Bob Likens, Marjorie Oron, Shari Berkowitz, Karen Frischmann, Sandy Shimoda.
In 2011, she opened her Pilatesbeperfect Studio in Rome and specializes in various fields of functional therapy, from postural gymnastics to post-traumatic rehabilitation. This, combined with years of extensive experience both as a sportswoman and as an educator, allows her to confidently and successfully identify and focus on her client's aims and objectives.
One of her projects for the future is to devise a training course that totally reflects the philosophy of the studio.
Her closest collaborator, Cinzia Merloni, a former athlete and skating trainer for many years is a third generation Pilates instructor. Certified in Power Pilates and Romana’s Pilates, she is a dynamic trainer whose personality and teaching techniques blend perfectly with the style and philosophy of the studio
