STUDIO
Grasshopper Pilates opened in September 2014 in Boise, Idaho. Suzette Anderson was the sole owner for the first year and Carrie Shanafelt became part owner in 2015. The studio is dedicated solely to Pilates instruction within the classical system. Currently, we are preparing to add a teacher training certification program under the direction of Carrie.
PEOPLE
Suzette Anderson discovered Pilates while working at a health club in Colorado as a fitness instructor. Her enthusiasm for Pilates made her want to share it with others, and Suzette completed her certification in 2011 under Clare Dunphy and Colleen Glenn.
Carrie Shanafelt was certified with The Pilates Guild in 1999 in Seattle, WA. She had the great fortune of studying with Dorothee Van de Walle, Lori Coleman-Brown, Lauren Stephan, and Romana Kryzanowska. Carrie opened Boise’s first Pilates studio in 2000, Forte Pilates. She is a 2015 graduate of The Work under the mentorship of Jay Grimes, Sandy Shimoda, and Karen Frischmann.
Heidi Burpee was certified in 2009 by Dorothee Van de Walle through Seattle’s Metropolitan Authentic Training program. Her previous career in education combined with her focus on physical activity has been a perfect fit for Heidi as a Pilates instructor. She is caring yet challenging.
Desiree Matthews discovered Pilates while studying for her BA in Seattle, WA. She started her training at Pilates Seattle International with Lauren Stephan, Lori Coleman-Brown, Dorothee Van de Walle. Desiree also had the opportunity to train with Romana Kryzanowska. She has been teaching Pilates for over 15 years now.
EQUIPMENT
Gratz Pilates equipment is an essential element to our studio. Pilates is simple but so challenging. Because Gratz is not more complicated than the work it helps the body to work deeply and to flow through the workout. This allows us to move better out in the world.
