"Romana's Pilates and Gratz go hand in hand so it was never a question which manufacturer we would choose to fill our studio. Providing a safe and thorough Pilates experience is paramount to our work. This goal is accomplished in part to the extreme reliability of Gratz apparatus. With everything involved in running a Pilates studio, we are glad to have minimal maintenance requirements with our equipment. After eight years of heavy use our investment is going strong and looking beautiful."
Kathryn Schumann & Pamela Hoffman McNeil, Instructors
In 2008 Pam McNeil and Kathryn Schumann opened Classic Pilates in Oak park, Illinois to bring authentic Pilates training to the near western suburbs of Chicago. Its a small but airy space we all enjoy coming into. Our clientele include dancers, cross-training young professionals, gracefully aging baby boomers well as our dear elderly friends. Pilates is exercise for life and all of our varied clients benefit from their tailor made work outs.
Our studio is staffed by six Romana's Pilates certified instructors who have been studying and teaching together for 15 years in the Chicago area. We owe a large debt of gratitude to Romana Kryzanowska, Sari Mejia-Santo, and Juanita Lopez for providing us a top notch Pilates education that we enjoy sharing with others.
For the past seven years, since completing their training, Kathryn and Pam have been committed to providing their clients with a True Pilates workout specific to their own bodies' needs and capabilities, while maintaining the original system of training developed by Joseph Pilates.
Kathryn Schumann received her BA degree in the Teaching of Ballet in 1986 from Virginia Intermont College. Throughout her career in dance she performed with The Louisville Ballet, Boitsov Classical Ballet, Ballet Chicago, The Lyric Opera of Chicago and in Ruth Page's production of The Nutcracker, as well as teaching ballet at Lou Conte Dance Studio. Kathryn began Pilates in 1992 as a way to prevent dance injuries and to prolong her career. After having children she resumed her Pilates studies and became certified in 2001 through the greatly esteemed Authentic Pilates (now called Romana's Pilates.) She is very grateful and happy to be doing the work that she does and is inspired by her teachers and clients to discover ever deeper benefits of the Pilates Method.
Pamela Hoffman McNeil was certified in Authentic Pilates (now Romana's Pilates) in June, 2001 and has been teaching Pilates privately since that time. Ms. McNeil is also a faculty member at The Dance Center of Columbia College where she teaches Modern dance Technique, Experiential Anatomy and Kinesiology, Teaching Pedagogy, and Conditioning for Dancers. A former dancer, Pam spent 10 years dancing professionally in New York, where she also trained extensively in Hawkins Technique, worked with the Erick Hawkins dance company and taught at his school. Upon moving to Chicago she became a member of Mordine and Company with whom she danced for 9 years. Most recently, Ms. McNeil was awarded The Graduate Laban Certificate in Movement Analysis, by Columbia College Chicago.
