"For me, Pilates is more than a simple exercise. It’s a magical experience. You can feel your body move as a unit. Feel the deep connections among your muscles. Feel the flow of your body and mind when they work together in perfect harmony. Feel your spirit reinvigorated from The Work. Isn’t that magic? I think so, because I feel the Gratz apparatus represents the magic wand to make everything come true!"
Gloria Gasperi, Studio Owner, Teacher Trainer
Studio Pilates is located in Sarzana, a lovely little town in Liguria, Italy near the famous and amazing Cinque Terre area. My clients tell me they already feel better as soon as they get in the picturesque studio. My goal was to create an environment where one can feel and breathe the magic of Pilates. We have an energetic open space with an immense window that gives an amazing view of the mountains while you sweat and work hard!
Before Studio Pilates, I owned a gym with a small space designated to Pilates. My list of clients grew fast and as I developed my understanding of The Work I felt the need for a place dedicated to Pilates. I wanted a place where everybody is welcome and the focus is totally oriented to The Work - without the “distractions” often found in a gym. In my studio, I feel at home and I love it!
Studio Pilates is perfectly organized for clients. I also direct a teacher training school called Pilates E-Motion. The students feel welcome, stimulated to learn, and grow in their Pilates. They can come in for their observation anytime. I studied at Vintage Pilates with the amazing elder, Jay Grimes as well as Sandy Shimoda, owner of Vintage Pilates. Sandy visits Studio Pilates every year a guest teacher. Last year I organized the Classical Pilates Convention Pisa and I had the honor and pleasure of having Jay as a special guest teacher.
I met Pilates for the first time in 1999 in Boston. I used to teach fitness and sports and, being there on vacation, I decided to try a mat class. I couldn’t understand immediately, but from the very first time, I felt something special in this work, a special connection, and a great desire to understand more! At the time, I couldn’t find a Classical Pilates school in Italy, so I started studying with Peak in Holland. I completed my path by receiving a Comprehensive Certification in Boston with Clare Dunphy, founder and instructor of Progressive Bodyworks.
My Pilates life reached a new level 5 years ago when I began studying with Jay Grimes and Sandy Shimoda at Vintage Pilates in Los Angeles. I love Jay’s philosophy on The Work. He says, “You can’t teach Pilates. You can only guide people to find it in their own body.” Well, Jay is really unique in that and he has total respect for The Work Joe Pilates himself taught him! Sandy is an amazing teacher and leader to guide a great place where everybody can go and experience the original Work!
I have completed their selective program called “The Work” and I’m currently attending “Teaching The Work”. For this special program, Jay personally selects 12 people from all over the world and teaches them Joe’s philosophy and method. I am honored and glad to be part of this lucky group with my amazing colleagues.
I have a degree in Movement Sciences and I always find it incredible how all the things I’ve studied perfectly match my own body’s experience in Pilates. Pilates is more than gymnastics to me. It’s really a magical experience that changes your body, your mind, and elevates your spirit. When I am teaching, I pass down all my passion, experience, and respect for the original, universal work. I always focus on giving something special to anyone in front of me.
I use to have other apparatus in the past. It wasn’t until I started working with Jay that I understood the power of Gratz and I have since changed all my equipment.

Jay Grimes said, “If you change The Work it means you didn’t really understand it.”
The same can be said of the Gratz apparatus. Joe Pilates designed them to work only your inner muscles. They have the perfect spring resistance, the perfect shape for your back, they let you keep your focus only on the movement that heals your body. With Gratz, you don’t need to change the apparatus according to your body, because the apparatus changes your body. Any body type can fit perfectly on a Gratz apparatus.
The studio could never be the same amazing place without my amazing team. I call them my “Pilates Dream Team”:
