" I still remember the very first time I worked on a Gratz reformer. My body just clicked with the exercises perfectly,
which was due to the correct specifications of the Gratz reformer and all other Gratz equipment.
- Ying Huang, Instructor
Ying's Authentic Pilates
Located in the vibrant new CBD of Guangzhou, amidst modern high-rise buildings, we are a close neighbor to many corporations and consulates. Founded by Ying Huang in 2012 as the first Classical Pilates studio in China, we adhere to true, classical Pilates practices. On offer are private and semi-private lessons as well as group mat classes and group reformer classes. These are taught in English and Chinese. Currently, our clientele comprises more than 40 nationalities, so the studio is like a mini United Nations. Many of our clients began their Pilates here, and Pilates has quickly become an important part of their lives. When clients have moved to a new country, a Pilates studio is one of their first requests! Pilates is new in China and we are working hard to spread the word to encourage more people to try Pilates and make positive improvements in their lives.
Ying lived in Auckland, New Zealand for 10 years. Ying has transitioned from Architecture to business management and finally to Pilates, which she discovered about 10 years ago while completing her masters degree in business management. It was the physical challenges and pursuit of perfection of the Pilates discipline that attracted her in the beginning. Yings’ passion for Pilates is a direct result of the amazing benefits she has obtained through her own practice of Pilates. This has now led to a shift in emphasis from “improving her own physical and mental well-being through Pilates” to “how to challenge her clients to be the best of themselves”, so that they too can gain all the benefits that she has enjoyed. Ying enrolled in a Romana’s Pilates apprenticeship in Takapuna, Auckland and studied with and was certified by Cynthia Lochard at Pilates Unlimited. Since relocating to Guangzhou in 2011, Ying has found the life here to be both exciting and challenging, as she has set about introducing Classical Pilates to a new market.
Over the years of my Pilates experiences, I have had the opportunity to use many different makes of Pilates equipment in different studios. Most of that equipment was from well known brands and all were of good quality, but the details of their designs often misinterpret the original concepts of Joseph Pilates. Some are too wide of frame, which makes me feel I was being pulled apart. Some have springs so light that I cannot feel the work and this can even be dangerous for some exercises. I still remember the very first time I worked on a Gratz reformer. My body just clicked with the exercises perfectly, which was due to the correct specifications of the Gratz reformer and all other Gratz equipment. So impressed was I with the Gratz equipment that I now have a studio equipped exclusively with Gratz: 4 reformers, 1 Cadillac, 2 wall units, 1 chair, all barrels, foot corrector, and Ijust received my toe corrector this week. I am proud that I have created this place as a role model to promote true Pilates work.
