"When I'm on Gratz equipment, I not only understand and know why pilates works, but I FEEL why it works in my body and I'm able to become one with the apparatus."
- Elaine Ewing, Owner & Instructor
Rhinebeck Pilates is a classical pilates studio, fully equipped with all Gratz apparatus. The studio opened in 2003 and is located in the center of the historic village of Rhinebeck, in upstate New York. The studio features all Gratz apparatus: Reformers, Towers, a Cadillac, a Wunda Chair, a High Chair, Ladder Barrels, Spine Correctors, Small Barrels, a Pedi-pole, Foot Correctors, Push Up Bars, and Magic Circles. The studio offers private, duet, and trio sessions as well as small group classes.
In the years since opening it’s doors, Rhinebeck Pilates has become known as a friendly studio for pilates students, it’s knowledgeable instructors, and also as a place for teachers come and learn, practice, and study pilates together. We have hosted guest teachers such as Sean Gallagher, Junghee Won, Simona Ciprani, Enja Schenck, and Jennifer DeLuca for workshops that bring teachers in together as community.
Rhinebeck Pilates won and was featured in Hudson Valley Magazine’s annual, “Best of the Hudson Valley” issue in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015.
Elaine Ewing is a certified Authentic Pilates teacher through the New York Pilates Studio, by Sean Gallagher and Junghee Won. She has studied and practiced pilates extensively through workshops and classes taught by master teachers of the Classical Pilates Method such as Sean Gallagher, Junghee Won, MeJo Wiggin, Bob Liekens, Leah Chaback Katz, and Simona Cipriani, to name a few.
Elaine can be found on Pilatesology as the model for a number of Junghee Won's and Sean Gallagher's instructional videos.
Elaine’s style of teaching is not only influenced by her studies with pilates teachers, it is also heavily influenced by the Alexander Technique, which she has practiced extensively for eight years with Hope Gillerman, Joan Arnold, and Judith Muir.
When she's not in the studio, Elaine enjoys spending time with her family and friends, hiking, gardening, and enjoying life in the Hudson Valley.
In my lifelong journey as a pilates teacher, nothing has enhanced my teaching, practice, and understanding of the pilates method more than the equipment made by Gratz. I have worked on and taught on every brand of equipment imaginable, but the day I got on a Gratz reformer, I felt like I had finally come home. It makes sense that the original specifications by Joseph Pilates harmonize with the exercises. The balance of resistance and assistance between the body and the springs answered so many of my questions about the method and its theories. When I’m on Gratz equipment, I not only understand and know why pilates works, but I FEEL why it works in my body and I’m able to become one with the apparatus.
Teaching on Gratz equipment is so satisfying in so many ways. Pilates students must truly maintain the method within their whole bodies throughout every single step of every exercise in order to properly complete the exercise from start to finish. Not a session goes by when I don’t feel inspired and amazed by the effects in my students’ bodies from practicing pilates on Gratz equipment. I greatly attribute the pleasure I get from teaching pilates to the fact that I’m teaching on Gratz equipment.
