There are many paths to the Pilates Method, and my highway was built on the design, construction, and mechanics. But I think that’s fairly normal and common if you start out as an architect!
After discovering Pilates, I was fascinated not only by the movement of the body, but by the function of the apparatus as well. Right from the start, I imagined building my own machines. It wasn’t until later that I learned that these devices aren’t machines at all, since a machine has a motor. The motor for all Pilates equipment is, of course, the moving body! With every discovery like this, I became more obsessed.
It had always been a dream of mine to build furniture; tables, benches, and so on, so I thought why not build my own Pilates equipment? The perfect hobby for an architect and Pilates trainer!
It took me years to research what works best, why Joe chose the proportions he did, why this length, why this kind of spring, why this kind of handle, why this kind of strap. For me it was my way of understanding the work at an even deeper level. You really have to be patient to get the secret sauce out of it.
After getting to know and 'meeting' the Gratz equipment, I took several rides on other Reformers, but one thing was totally clear to me: I wanted to have more equipment from Gratz. There is simply no comparison. With any other Reformer, you can’t feel this magic sparkle inside. It transforms, it reforms the body, just as Joe said. The body receives the highest of results because everything is to the exact measurement and the highest quality possible. There is both safety and challenge - you can lie back and know that you will have a safe and secure experience, which fits the exercise and delivers Joe’s message in the best way imaginable.
There’s never a moment of worry that things aren’t correctly build, or properly researched, the math, the proportions, the torque or the springs. You don’t even have to be concerned about the price, every aspect is done to the highest possible quality control. How do I know? Because I know what it takes to build this equipment: I’ve done it. With Gratz, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel, the way I did. So I started to select pieces first a toe corrector, springs, loops, handles, push-up handles, and now I even have my own Gratz 80’’ Reformer. I feel sure it won't be the only one in the house for long!
I think it’s time for a new Reformation: not only one to reform the bodies of our clients, but one to reform our teaching. We are bringing Joe back home to Germany, and one of the ways this is possible is in bringing the original Gratz design home, too. Real Pilates. Real teachers. Real equipment.
As I continue along my Pilates path, I hope to see you there, too. Let’s get a little more Classical, a little more Joe-ish, a little more Real, a little more Gratz...together!

A mission to spread grace.
In life the more we overcome, the more we transform. Our desire is to hold a sacred space so our clients can choose grace in moments that challenge them. We believe the union of Classical Pilates and Yoga can bring this revolution of self.
Choosing grace in moments of darkness allows us to persevere. When we choose grace, we invite courage; we cultivate strength and gratitude. With our clients we create strong bodies and peaceful minds, and encourage them to share their stories. These are the stories that connect us, heal us, sustain us, and allow us to open to Grace.
