(Past Event) The Unusual Wunda Chair Workshop with Blossom Leilani Crawford

The Unusual Wunda Chair Workshop with Blossom Leilani Crawford

In this workshop, Blossom will dive into the Wunda Chair exercises that are less often taught. An hour-long Wunda Chair session usually leaves out some wonderful exercises. We will take a look at, demystify and explore some of these to broaden and deepen your own practice as well as that of your students. It has been my experience that some of these are ideal for clients who have a specific issue or seeking a fresh challenge. Diversify your Wunda Chair teaching repertory with accessible Wunda Chair exercises that will transform your understanding of this studio workhorse.

The Anatomy Workshop
In this workshop, Pam DeJohn will focus on the study of anatomy as it relates to Pilates. The Pilates method began when a family physician gave the teenage Joseph Pilates a discarded anatomy book. He memorized the book and began moving each part of his body and figuring out which muscles and bones were involved in the movement. This was where he developed the art of Control. In this workshop you will study the muscles that move us through the Pilates work; remember them by using the exercise as a reference point; build your own knowledge in anatomy as you use every Pilates apparatus to practice the movements, and memorize the anatomy.

About Blossom Leilani Crawford

Romana Certified Teacher. Blossom Leilani Crawford is the owner and director of Bridge Pilates in Brooklyn, New York. She is known for her playful and powerful teaching methods, which she developed during the seventeen years she worked with Pilates Elder Kathleen Stanford Grant. Since then, Blossom has made it her mission to expose each one of her students to the joy and satisfaction that comes from intelligent exercise.Blossom had the good fortune to be introduced to Pilates by Kathy Grant in 1993, during her first year as a dance student at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. A venerated teacher, Kathy was one of only two people to personally receive her Pilates teaching certification from Joseph Pilates himself. Blossom was impressed by the effect that Kathy’s exacting and intuitive approach to Pilates had on maintaining and healing her body, and continued to study with her throughout her rigorous dance program. After three years of working with Kathy, Blossom became her Teaching Assistant at NYU, an honored position that she held for over a decade (1996-2007). With Kathy’s encouragement, Blossom went on to pursue private study with Pilates Elder Romana Kryzanoyska. She received her Pilates teaching certification 1999, after six hundred hours of practice and observation.Blossom’s current work is a blend of her own considerable experience, Romana’s more traditional set of training methods, and Kathy’s flexible and demanding style. She is known for her ability to seamlessly integrate Pilates lineages as the situation demands, and for her insight into Kathy’s work. The diverse stylistic approaches Blossom can access on the spot has made her a sought after Pilates instructor at conferences throughout the United States and abroad. In January of 2006, Blossom opened Bridge Pilates to ensure a space where all styles of Pilates are present and honored, as Kathy had always taught her. In addition to teaching private sessions, workshops, and conferences, Blossom is a faculty member at Mark Morris Dance Center in downtown Brooklyn, where her vigorous group mat classes are open to the community. Most importantly, Blossom is the fiercely proud mother of two children—which means balancing the career she loves with her desire to get dinner on the table in time! (Source)

About Authentic Pilates Learning Center

From the mid-1920s into the late 1980’s Joseph Pilates and his wife Clara taught their method of exercise in New York City, which even now is considered way ahead of its time in improving posture, strength, and flexibility in everyone and anyone.

Their clients were beginners, intermediate, and advanced students. Many of whom had physical abnormalities to overcome, and many of whom were athletes and dancers. Whoever they were, these people had custom programs designed for them to address any issues or to further strengthen and heal their bodies.

Unexpectedly, many of their clients went on to become teachers of the Pilates Method and to open studios of their own. One such person was Romana Kryzanowska who was Joseph Pilates' original protégée. During her life, Romana was world renowned as an instructor and teacher of teachers.

It was under her tutelage that ALL OF THE INSTRUCTORS of Authentic Pilates Learning Center received their training. Under Romana's careful eye, instructors from all over the world receive the Authentic Pilates work as taught to her by Joseph Pilates. Those who receive this training understand the gift they have been trusted with ….. to teach and pass on this original system of full body exercise. Using a variety of pieces of equipment invented by Joseph Pilates, we too address the same kinds of issues as Joseph Pilates.

We were told he would say, “Bring us your body, and we will make it better.”

Authentic Pilates Learning Center has been added to the elite group of training facilities in the country which certifies Pilates teachers for the United States Pilates Association, U.S.P.A. Pam DeJohn, Center Director and Teacher Trainer, and Erica Almodovar, Teacher Trainer, are now training for the U.S.P.A. and will be hosting certifications throughout the year.

Pilates certification seminars are held in Mahwah, NJ and throughout the country. The Classical Pilates Teacher Certification process consists of two phases; First, an academic study through the System Workshops followed by experiential training through the Apprenticeship Program.
