Advanced Mat Class with Stephanie West
Come and experience the challenge of an Advanced Power Pilates Mat class! The focus is on the transitions that will advance your ability to direct "minimum of movement for maximum of flow." Come prepared to move.

Have a Ball with Your Mat Class with Jordana Herman
Learn how to integrate these useful props into your mat class or create a Pilates on the Ball class-great for Pilates Studios and Health Clubs. See how the use of various ball props can literally help place the beginner/intermediate student's center of gravity in their core, while challenging the advanced student with additional resources. Come prepared to workout and flow.

Secondary Powerhouse with Stephanie West
This workshops is designed to help clarify your understanding of the components and movements of the Secondary Powerhouse. We will start with an in-depth anatomical look at this very cool part of our bodies, and then move to actually working with the Pilates equipment and exercises that can help our clients stretch, strengthen, and stabilize in this area. You will leave with a good working knowledge and understanding of the exercises and ways you can help your clients understand, strengthen, stabilize, and healthfully work with this part of their bodies.

Art of Verbal of Cueing with Jordana Herman
We, as instructors, sometimes question if we are telling the student too much or too little. Have you ever wondered, "Why do I feel as though I am talking and/or teaching so much and my client still isn't getting it?" During this workshop, we will look at appropriate cueing - verbal, as well as tactile. We will also discuss how to efficiently convey the wealth of information without flooding the client. Our philosophy has always been "appropriate cueing at the appropriate time."
Prerequisite: Mat and/or apparatus teaching experience

Bend Over Backwards with Benjamin Degenhardt
Think there's too much flexion in traditional Pilates? Look way back into Joe Pilates' work. During this workshop participants get to explore the concepts of safe inversion and extension and learn that Pilates is, in fact, full of opportunities to do so!

Four Hours with a Pilates Elder: Lessons from Mary Bowen w/ Mary Bowen
Spend four hours "Getting to Know Mary Bowen" - our most senior Pilates Elder still teaching who studied with Joe and Clara themselves. The workshop is broken into two sections. The first two hours will be on the evolution of Mary Bowen's Pilates, especially since she turned 70. The second two hours will focus on Mary's specialty, PILATES PLUS PSYCHE: The Application of Jungian Typology to the Teaching and Practice of Pilates - to help both the teacher and the client.

Mary began studying with Joe and Clara at the age of 29 for six and a half years twice a week. After Joe's passing Mary continued taking weekly private lessons for herself for 56 years with Bob Seed, Romana, Kathy Grant, Bruce King, Jean Claude West and Christine Wright, all in NYC. Mary was given permission to teach Pilates at the age of 45 by Romana in 1975 after 16 years of her own personal Pilates lessons and practice. Her Pilates continued to improve and deepen with teaching it and her own continuing lessons. The most dramatic change came in the year 2000 at 70. Mary will describe what evolved for her then which still continues.

In 1970-71, five years before being asked and permitted to teach Pilates, Mary began her parallel profession as a Jungian Psychoanalyst. These dual professions continued side by side separately for 20 years until 1995 when due to a client's distress Mary combined the two professions by calming down this client with a psychological explanation that the difficulty the client was having was natural and due to her typology, her psychological type at birth. She had been born an "Intuitive" and her body, in this client's case lay in the farthest deepest reaches of her unconscious which were not yet available. Mary was overheard and word got out what a wonderful help this had been. Now everyone wanted both from Mary - her two professions at once. PILATES PLUS PSYCHE was born. In the year 2001 it was presented at the second Annual Conference of the PMA and has been a unique contribution to the Pilates community world wide ever since.

Mary will teach the principles of Jungian Typology, how to find one's own type and one's client's. She will address as many of the workshop participants personally as is possible in the time allowed. The approach to and relationship with a client, the setting of a lesson, the expectations of what is possible and what is not are significantly influenced and helped when we can understand the practical usefulness of typology. "YOUR PILATES AND ALL OF YOU IMPROVES WITH AGING!"

Intermediate Mat Class Review with Jordana Herman
This workshop will focus on reviewing the Intermediate Mat exercises and variations. Learn how to challenge an intermediate student by utilizing intermediate and some advanced level exercises. This workshop will be helpful for those teaching mat as well as apparatus sessions. Be prepared to move and practice!
Prerequisite: Instructors and clients with intermediate mat experience

Spine Corrector Challenge with Lesly Levy
The Spine Corrector is that often-forgotten and hardly-ever-used piece of apparatus that spends most of its days sitting on the floor under the Cadillac. This mat-based workout takes the classical Spine Corrector exercises you know and love, and adds more creative exercises borrowing from the Reformer.
Prerequisite: Instructors and clients with intermediate mat experience

Buckle up; we are going to move on the Tower. Experience a non-stop-class incorporating classical Pilates Mat and Tower exercises, ideas and sweat galore.

Special Cases: Mat Class with Stephanie West
Nobody's perfect, right? Right! This class will cover the beginner/intermediate mat exercises with safe and effective strategies and modifications for clients with special needs. We will review specific modifications for low back pain, knee injuries, shoulder pain, neck issues, osteoporosis and pregnancy. Come ready to work out and leave with new tools for your Power Pilates toolkit!
Prerequisite: Instructors with beginner-intermediate Mat teaching experience

Challenge an Advanced Client with Beginner System with Lesly Levy
Advanced clients don't always have to do the advanced reformer or mat work to be challenged at their level. This is a matter of vocabulary. This workshop will help you to return to the Beginner System, to challenge the client with the clarity of anatomically stabilizing cues. We will revisit all of the biomechanical concepts and how to apply them to the basic workout!
Prerequisite: Open to instructors who have at least beginner/intermediate apparatus level teaching experience

There's an App(aratus) for That with Benjamin Degenhardt
Joe Pilates truly saw the body in its entirety when he developed his work. Not one part was ignored, and he invented various apparatus to offer assistance, resistance, and correction where ever it was needed. This workshop teaches participants about the hierarchy of the different inventions, their relationship to one another and the moving body, and how to reintegrate smaller devices such as the Toe Corrector and Neck Stretcher into modern teaching!

Super Advanced Cadillac Syllabus with Lesly Levy
In this workshop you will learn or review the exercises you rarely see or get to teach. Be prepared for some fun and dynamic material to come your way today!

Empowering Your Pregnancy with Lesly Levy
This workshop, developed and inspired by Susan Moran-Perich during her pregnancy, addresses the anatomical changes that occur during pregnancy. These changes necessitate a restructuring of the Power Pilates workout; including both mat and apparatus work. Following a brief overview of the physiological effects on the body, the class format is a sequential workout that is appropriate and safe, yet still interesting and challenging for the pregnant client. You will learn the necessary tools to work with this population. An important aspect of this workshop is cueing. You will learn the specific cues Susan created for pregnant clientele. Come prepared to move.

It's All In Your Hands with Rose Davis
Discover the Reiki power within you and learn how to channel this energy to heal and enhance your client's training experience. This healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being.

About Pilates Elder, Mary Bowen

In 1959, at 29, Mary Bowen began to learn the Pilates Method. She was in New York City as an actress, comedienne, and musical comedy performer with a recurring back problem. She saw an article in a newspaper with a man standing with his bare barrel of a chest, bare legs, swimming trunks and a white mane of hair. Joe was an intriguing sight – a human lion! In the short article he said “I base my method on the baby and the cat!” She had never had a baby or a cat, but she took it upon herself to find Joseph Pilates! That was the beginning of a life “root.”

Mary's back improved after only two lessons with Joe. Since walking into Joe and Clara’s studio fifty years ago, she has taken one to two lessons every week for all those years. Her New York City Pilates teachers have been: 6 and a half years twice a week with Joe, Clara and Hanna, 7 years with Bob Seed, 7 years at Romana Krysanowska’s, 7 years with Kathy Grant, 7 years with Bruce King and Jean Claude West concurrently, and since 1995 with Christine Wright.

The time and expense of lessons over the years has insured the deepening of her Pilates work. She recommends that all Pilates teachers should find someone excellent to watch over and guide their own Pilates practice. This can be pivotal to the development of oneself and one’s teaching. (Source)

About Jordana Herman

A lifelong health and fitness devotee, Jordana was looking for a smarter way to stay in shape after the birth of her son in 2001. She wanted something that not only made her look good, but feel good too. She tried Pilates and was hooked. It was the perfect combination of strengthening, stretching, connecting the mind and the body. Pilates made her feel healthier and stronger than ever - it was like finding the fountain of youth. She was so inspired she decided to make a major life change - she closed her health food store to pursue a career in Pilates. Studying with Master Teachers Susan Moran and Bob Liekens of Power Pilates in New York City, and Senior Teacher Juliet Harvey in Beacon, NY only left her wanting more. In 2010 she became a certified Teacher Trainer. She's always excited to share the joy of teaching and guide apprentices as they hone their craft.

"Teaching fits perfectly into my busy life as a full-time Mom," Jordana says. "There's nothing else I'd rather do than teach Pilates".

Enjoying the good life in Beacon, NY and pregnant with her second child, she has no intention of slowing down. She plans to continue sharing her passion for Pilates and remain a student always.

She holds a B.A. in English Literature from New York University.

About Lesly Levy

Lesly Levy, PMA_CPT, former owner of Mindful Moves Pilates Center in Mt Kisco, NY, Director of Pilates for Apogee in Westchester and General Manager of and Senior Instructor at Power Pilates in Midtown is a Senior Teacher Trainer for Power Pilates, VBARRE Teacher Trainer as well as on the Power Pilates Curriculum Committee. Lesly has been a professionally instructing in the fitness field for 24+ years and teaching Pilates for 17 years. She has written numerous Pilates workshops, co-authored Pilates manuals with Power Pilates for NYSC, starred in over a dozen Pilates Videos, traveled both within the US as well as internationally to teach Pilates Training Courses as well as presented at both ECA and PMA Annual Conferences. Lesly has also been a regular presenter at Power Pilates Continuing Education Conferences and a Teacher Trainer since 2004.

About Benjamin Degenhardt

Benjamin Degenhardt has been involved in the world of movement and Pilates education for over 15 years, and has presented his work at numerous conferences and training facilities around the world.

A teacher of teachers, Benjamin is the creator of innovative programs that combine his extensive experience in Pilates and fitness and his background as a professional dancer and dance teacher with his accomplishments as an educator in the movement field.

Most notably, Benjamin has developed 360° Pilates, a curriculum dedicated to bringing to life the work of physical culture pioneer Joseph Pilates. 360° Pilates is distinct in the current landscape of Pilates education for its philosophy-based approach, and its consolidation of the traditional method with a contemporary understanding of movement, health and fitness training.

Benjamin develops his programs with the needs of movement and fitness professionals in mind, and offers teacher training, immersive training, individual coaching sessions and online learning.

Benjamin began studying the Pilates method in 1998, has completed classical and contemporary training programs and is certified through the Pilates Method Alliance. Prior to founding 360° Pilates, he served as Lead Teacher Trainer for the Equinox Pilates Institute in New York City and Boston and maintained status as a top-tier and top-producing instructor within Equinox’s nationwide Pilates program for several years. Benjamin holds additional credentials as a Simonson Technique Teacher and Functional Movement Screen (FMS) Specialist, and continues to study with a diverse group of experts in the movement field.

About Stephanie West

Stephanie West (Iervoline) started practicing Pilates in 2002 after a car accident left her with a broken pelvis and back. After 11 months of physical therapy, she was out of pain, but had limited strength and range of motion. Kimberly Karpanty, a Pilates Instructor with Core Dynamics© and dance professor suggested Pilates as a way to transition back into dancing full time. Pilates was the only form of rehabilitation that worked her range of motion and challenged her strength. She got back to dancing stronger than ever before. Stephanie graduated from Kent State University (Ohio) with a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography. Stephanie then went on to study dancer injuries and movement analysis at the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies (NYC) and is a Certified Movement Analyst.

Stephanie has a passion for teaching Pilates, and her strengths include identifying a clients' strengths so that together they can "work what works." Utilizing the skill set Stephanie has acquired through her training at Power Pilates and many years of movement experience, she knows that "Movement Heals" and that a proactive and positive approach is what will make change occur. By working at Power Pilates, Stephanie is continuing to sharpen the teaching tools that make her such an approachable instructor.
