Workshop: Pilates for Gait
As our society evolves from a moving to sedentary lifestyle proper alignment and mechanics during walking becomes more and more important. When we observe people walking on the streets or in our stores, it becomes evident that our sedentary living patterns are creating people who don’t walk efficiently and with ease. Overtime the frictions in the body we create by improper gait mechanics will hurt us. In this workshop we will look at ways Pilates and Pilates based exercises can help improve our clients gait mechanics.

Cost: $220.00 (Part 1)

Workshop: Pilates for Athletes
Pilates was created as a form of general conditioning that allows you to do what you want to do with energy and without pain. Since Pilates strengthens and stretches the body uniformly it is especially beneficial for Athletes. Most athletes spend a lot of time on specific technique and specific strength, mobility and balance training. The training is specific to their sport or the position they play. This leads to a very unbalanced body as they only train “what they need” during their sport. General conditioning has become less important as athletes specialize more. However, this has created many injuries as parts of the body get overdeveloped and parts stay underdeveloped. Pilates can fix this. It can be the form of training that increases the athletes general conditioning, making the specific training more beneficial, creating an overall improvement in sport performance. In this workshop we will cover how you can adjust the Pilates method to address the needs of your athletes."

Cost: $250.00 (Part 2)

Workshop: Archival Pilates
Joseph Pilates created different versions of his exercises for different people. Today the method continues to evolve and new versions are and will be created. However, we believe it is essential to know where it all started. What were some of Joseph’s original versions? Michael and Ton were fortunate to have been able to work with many of Joe’s protégées or their direct descendants. From them they learned the versions Joe had taught them. During their time with Romana Kryzanowska Michael and Ton had unlimited access to film, video and photo material that is now commonly known as the Archival Material. After studying the material Michael and Ton would ask Romana about the versions and exercises during their sessions and this often turned into a walk down memory lane for Romana as she shared her numerous insights with Michael and Ton. In this workshop you will experience and learn some of these hidden gems of exercises and versions on different pieces of apparatus from Joe and his direct protégées.

About Art of Control

After graduating, Simona managed the Pilates Studio at Purchase for Romana and a friendship was kindled that would last for decades. After her years of managing the SUNY Purchase Pilates Studio, Simona set off on her own to open her own Studio and travel with Romana assisting her in Workshops both locally and across the globe. Seeing the Pilates program at SUNY Purchase fall dormant and Simona recognizing the importance of reaching out to a younger generation she petitioned the school to start the program up again. With Romana’s blessing The Art of Control at SUNY Purchase was birthed. This time not just as a class for Dancers, but as a fully credited Certificate Program issued by SUNY Purchase. The Certification Program has blossomed as “The Art and Science of Contrology Pilates Certification Program.” It incorporates Mat and full Equipment Certifications in the States and abroad!
